Before joining Normec, Rick worked as a payroll administrator at a temp agency. In his role, he frequently supported SNA inspections. Each visit sparked his interest in the field, until he finally called a Normec inspector to have a proper chat about the job.
His previous experience still helps him every day. Rick knows exactly what it’s like to sit on the other side of the table. "I always had a lot of respect for the inspectors who visited. The key is to make the client feel comfortable, as they often get nervous. An inspector should stand alongside the business, not above it. With my knowledge and personality, that role felt completely natural."
The variety of work makes Rick's job appealing. Each day is different: one day he drives early to an inspection, the next he’s working from home. "It’s fun to visit so many different companies. You meet new people and see how diverse businesses are. My job is to check whether everything meets the standards. If it doesn’t, I discuss it with them. That’s what makes it challenging."
Freedom is perhaps the biggest plus for Rick. "Where I used to sit in a fixed location, I now work across the country and from home. The schedule is arranged for you, so you can fully focus on inspections. Sometimes you finish early, sometimes later. I'm fine with that, as long as the balance feels right. Although you work independently, you’re never truly alone. At Normec, you can always rely on colleagues."
