Meet Rens: Lab Manager at Normec

“Together we can achieve things that you wouldn’t be able to do alone.”

Driving success through teamwork

Rens Piccavet is Lab Manager at Normec Servaco, where he is responsible for the inorganic laboratory. What started 12 years ago as a role as laboratory technician has grown into a career full of development, responsibility and teamwork. Today, Rens experiences every day how strong collaboration makes all the difference – especially in complex, high-pressure projects.

Building expertise together

“At Normec, there’s a real focus on expertise,” Rens explains. “Everyone gets the time, resources and support to develop their skills and become a true specialist.” Continuous training and knowledge-sharing are part of daily life in the lab. This ensures the team stays up to date and consistently delivers high-quality results. But for Rens, it’s not just about technical expertise, it’s about the people behind it.

“What makes me most proud is the team,” he says. “We’re a diverse group, but there’s a great atmosphere. We support each other, we laugh together, and we tackle challenges as one team. And outside of work, we regularly get together too – for example during a running event with colleagues.”

That strong team spirit is what drives them every day. “We inspire and motivate each other. When someone goes that extra mile, it’s contagious. Together we can achieve things that you wouldn’t be able to do alone.”

Performing under pressure

That sense of collaboration truly comes to life during high-priority projects. Tight deadlines and complex demands require everyone to work closely together across teams and disciplines. “Each department has its own core tasks, and only by combining our efforts can we deliver for the client on time,” Rens explains. “Sometimes we even have to completely reorganise our planning to get everything done on time.”

While challenging, these moments are exactly what drive him. “These projects really push us,” he says. “But that’s also what motivates me. Seeing colleagues step up and give that extra effort gives everyone an extra boost. Their commitment is contagious: it inspires everyone to raise their game and give their best.”

A culture of trust and commitment

Clear communication, mutual trust and a shared sense of responsibility ensure that the team can always rely on each other, especially when it counts.“I’m proud to be part of a team where everyone knows that, when needed, we’ll all step up and give our very best,” Rens says.

That mindset pays off. Projects are delivered on time and to a high standard, clients are satisfied, and the team continues to grow – both professionally and personally. For Rens, that combination of expertise, trust and teamwork is what makes working at Normec truly special.
