Meet Merel: Making real impact by keeping things simple

“When a certificate holder goes through an audit and I can help them take a step forward, that’s when the work really matters.”

Simplicity is often the key to doing meaningful work, something Merel experiences every day in her role as Lead Auditor and Team Lead at Normec NCK. She thrives in an environment where clarity, ownership and continuous improvement come together. Whether she is leading audits or supporting her team, her focus is always the same: keeping things structured, practical and effective.

Creating value through continuous improvement

“What I enjoy most about my work is contributing to improvement,” Merel explains. “When a certificate holder goes through an audit and I can help them take a step forward, that’s when the work really matters.”

At Normec, making an impact is not something you do alone. Collaboration and knowledge sharing play a key role in how work gets done across our organisation. In her role as Team Lead, Merel supports colleagues in navigating complex situations and helps them grow in their approach to audits. “If my team can handle situations better because of the support I provide, that’s a result we achieve together.”

Simplicity as a strength

For Merel, simplicity is not a shortcut; it’s a deliberate way of working. “I always go back to the basics,” she says. “I prefer to keep things as simple and clear as possible. That allows us to repeat processes, improve them over time and become more effective.”

Working in a dynamic environment where no two situations are the same requires flexibility. At the same time, there is plenty of room to shape your own approach. According to Merel, this balance between structure and adaptability is what makes her work both challenging and rewarding.

Growing through responsibility

One of the things Merel values most at Normec, is the opportunity to keep developing. “Here you are encouraged to take ownership of your growth and expand your expertise over time.”

Over the past year, she completed her qualification as a Higher Safety Expert and continued her development in health and safety management systems. In addition, she participated in a leadership programme designed for mid managers, where she further developed her skills in leading teams, driving performance, and managing change.

“Having the opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally, is very important to me,” she reflects. “It allows me to keep improving in my role and contribute more to the organisation.”

Looking ahead

For Merel, growth never stands still, and that’s exactly what makes her work at Normec so fulfilling. Every day brings new challenges, opportunities to learn and the chance to make a real difference.
