Employee stories | Meet Rens - Lab Manager at Normec Servaco
Rens’ perspective on collaboration, success and the joy of working together
Rens Piccavet is Lab Manager at Normec Servaco and is responsible for the inorganic laboratory.
He has been with the company for 12 years, having started in 2013 as a laboratory technician.
Since then, he has grown into the roles of Technical Engineer and eventually Lab Manager. In his current role, he experiences daily how teamwork can make all the difference in complex projects.
The meaning of teamwork and expertise
“There is a real focus on expertise here,” Rens says. “Everyone is given the time and resources to develop their skills and become a true expert.” With ongoing training and support, the team stays up to date and can deliver high-quality work.
What makes Rens most proud, however, is his team. “It’s a diverse group, but there’s always a great atmosphere in the lab,” he explains. “We help each other, laugh together and tackle challenges as a team. Outside of work, we regularly do something fun, like a running event with a group of colleagues.”
“The best part,” he adds, “is that we inspire and motivate each other. When someone goes that extra mile, it’s contagious. Together we can achieve things that you wouldn’t be able to do alone.” For Rens, this combination of expertise, team spirit and camaraderie is what makes working at Normec Servaco truly special.
“Collaboration turns tough projects into shared victories.”
High-priority projects: achieving the best results together
That same collaboration and team spirit really shine when the lab takes on high-priority projects. These projects come with tight deadlines and can only succeed if everyone works closely together. “Each department has its own core tasks, and only by collaborating can we deliver results to the client on time,” Rens explains. “There are regularly projects where the entire schedule has to be reorganised to get everything done on time.”
These projects are a big challenge, but that’s exactly what motivates me to prove that we can make them succeed,” Rens says. “Seeing my colleagues putting in that extra effort gives me an added boost. Their commitment is contagious: it inspires everyone to raise their game and give their best.”
With clear communication and trust, the team is always able to coordinate effectively and focus on what can realistically be achieved. Rens says, “I’m proud to be part of a team where everyone knows that, when it matters, we’ll all step up and give our very best.” Thanks to this approach, projects are delivered on time and to a high standard, clients are happy, and the team continues to grow in knowledge, energy and collaboration.
